What is web hosting ?

IRLhost.com offer domain web hosting and email services. This means that we provide space on our servers for your web site. We can register a new domain name for you, or host an existing domain name, which will be used for your web site and email. We also offer a range of inclusive hosting packages with different amounts of web space, email accounts and varying features, starting with our Standard plan.

 

Do you offer dial up accounts ?

No, we specialise only in web hosting and design. We are focused on providing you with the best hosting service possible. You can use any Internet Service Provider you choose to provide you with access to the internet.

Yes we do. Please contact our design department for more information.

 

Can I change my hosting plan ?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your account at any time. There is no fee for upgrading or downgrading your account. Please e-mail your request to our sales department and be sure to include your domain and contact telephone number.

 

How do I transfer files to my web site ?

Files can be transferred to the web server using your file manager in your own control panel or an FTP program (File Transfer Protocol). You can download a program for either the PC or Mac from our site. Ws-Ftp is a shareware FTP program, available from wsftp.com.

Microsoft FrontPage users can 'publish' their sites to our server and should not use FTP.

 

Can I update my pages as often as I want ?

You have unlimited access to your site via your control panel, FTP or FrontPage 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your leisure. You can change and update your site as often as you want to.

 

Do I need FrontPage extensions ?

If you are planning to design and publish your site using the Microsoft FrontPage package you will need FrontPage extensions installing on your account. We will install them free of charge. If you are using any other design package then you do not need FrontPage extensions.

 

Do I need a CGI directory ?

CGI scripts run behind the scenes making a web site more interactive.
They are used to take information from forms, calculate prices of orders etc. All hosting plans have a cgi directory.

 

How much data transfer will I need ?

How much data transfer you will need depends on the amount of traffic you get on your web site.
